Use this interactive demo to learn how to increase the transparency of your photos in PowerPoint.

‍

It is very easy to increase the photo’s transparency in PowerPoint. Here’s a short tutorial on how to do it:

  1. Inside the slide canvas of your PowerPoint presentation, find and select the image you want to edit.
  2. Following that, hover your mouse cursor over the 'Picture' menu and click 'Format Picture'.
  3. Go to the right-hand panel, then click the 'Picture Transparency' tab.
  4. Subsequently, drag the slider to the right.
  5. Finally, the transparency of the selected photo in your PowerPoint presentation will increase based on your input.

📌 Why this matters

Adjusting photo transparency lets you layer images behind text or other elements while keeping them visible as subtle backgrounds or watermarks. This technique transforms static slides into visually sophisticated presentations where multiple design elements can coexist without competing for attention. Professional designers use transparency to create depth and visual hierarchy, allowing you to incorporate branding elements, background context, or supporting imagery that enhances your message without overwhelming your main content. The result is polished slides that feel intentionally crafted rather than simply assembled.
