Use this interactive demo to learn how to hide tasks in Microsoft Project.

‍

‍

In Microsoft Project, you don’t permanently “hide” tasks the way you might hide rows in Excel, but you can temporarily hide them by following these steps:

‍

  1. Open your Microsoft Project file to see all your tasks.
  2. Go to your columns and right click on your column bar.
  3. Select 'Insert Column'.
  4. Enter a name for your menu.
  5. From the menu, select 'Marked'.
  6. Once, you have created a unique identifier to tasks that you wish to hide. Choose and select a task.
  7. To filter the column, double click it and select 'Yes'.
  8. That's it! You have successfully hid the tasks in Microsoft Project.

📌 Why this matters

Hiding tasks lets you focus on specific project phases or milestones without visual clutter from completed or irrelevant items. This becomes especially valuable when presenting project status to stakeholders who don't need to see every granular detail.

Beyond simple organization, this filtering technique helps you create multiple views of the same project data for different audiences. Your executives might need high-level deliverables only, while team leads require operational tasks. You can quickly toggle between these perspectives without maintaining separate project files.
