Jira automation rules let teams define triggers, conditions, and actions that automatically execute repetitive project tasks. Setting up an automation rule in Jira reduces manual work and keeps software project workflows running consistently without human intervention.
Steps
- Open your desired project and go to Project settings.
- Select Automation from the project settings menu.
- On the Automation page, click Create Rule.
- Select the Trigger that will start the rule.
- Click Next to proceed to the conditions and actions setup.
- Click the Add an action button — you can also set conditions to narrow down when the rule should run.
- Choose the Action you want the rule to perform when the conditions are met.
- Name your rule, then click Turn on rule to activate it and confirm everything works as expected.
- Your automation rules are now active and will help streamline workflows and reduce manual tasks in your Jira projects.
