How to Create a Publishing Schedule in Hootsuite

Updated on:
May 12, 2026
By:
Madhav Bhandari
Use this interactive demo to learn how to schedule and publish social media posts in Hootsuite.

Quick summary

Hootsuite's publishing schedule feature lets social media managers create, caption, and schedule posts across multiple social accounts from a single dashboard. By setting a precise date and time for each post, teams can maintain a consistent content calendar without manual publishing.

Steps

  1. On Hootsuite's main dashboard, head to the left-side panel and click 'Create a Post'.
  2. Tap the 'Publish To' menu and select the social accounts you want to publish to.
  3. Click the text box under the 'Your Post' section and type your caption.
  4. Click the 'Add Media' icon and select the image file you wish to attach.
  5. Tap 'Schedule For Later' at the bottom-right of the composer.
  6. Set your preferred publication date by typing it manually or selecting one via the calendar icon.
  7. Use the drop-down menus to set the exact publication time.
  8. Click 'Done' to confirm your date and time selection.
  9. Review the post to ensure it matches your publishing schedule, then tap 'Schedule'.
  10. Your post is now created and saved according to your chosen publishing schedule.

📌 Why this matters

A consistent social media publishing schedule is essential for brands that want to grow engagement and reach audiences at peak times. Hootsuite's scheduling feature allows marketing teams to plan, caption, and queue posts across multiple social networks from one centralized dashboard, eliminating the need to publish content manually. By setting exact dates and times in advance, teams can maintain a steady content cadence, reduce last-minute workload, and ensure every post goes live when their audience is most active. This makes Hootsuite a critical tool for any social media management workflow focused on efficiency and audience growth.
