Use this interactive demo to learn how to create a hyperlink in Adobe InDesign.

‍

‍

Here’s a simple and quick guide on how to create an email hyperlink in Adobe InDesign:

‍

  1. To create a hyperlink for an email in Adobe InDesign, go to the top menu and click on 'Window.'
  2. Select 'Interactive' → 'Hyperlinks' to open the Hyperlinks panel.
  3. Once the panel opens, highlight the email address and click the '+' icon at the bottom to create a new hyperlink.
  4. Select 'Email' from the dropdown menu.
  5. Check that the email address is correct and add a subject line. Then click 'OK' to create the hyperlink for the email address.
  6. You can see the email hyperlink in the document, and its address will be listed in the Hyperlinks panel, indicating that the hyperlink was successfully created.

📌 Why this matters

Email hyperlinks in your InDesign documents create direct communication pathways that bypass the friction of manual copy-pasting. When readers click these links, their default email client opens with the recipient and subject line pre-populated, removing barriers to engagement. Beyond simple contact information, this functionality transforms static layouts into interactive experiences.

Your business cards become instant conversation starters, marketing materials generate immediate inquiries, and project proposals streamline client feedback loops. The pre-filled subject line ensures your emails arrive organized and contextual, increasing response rates significantly.
