Use this interactive demo to learn how to build and save a custom report in Xero.

Quick summary

Xero's custom reports feature lets you modify any standard report and save it under a new name for repeated use. In just a few clicks from the Accounting menu, you can tailor financial reports to match your exact business needs.

Steps

  1. On Xero's main dashboard, head over to the top menu bar and click 'Accounting'.
  2. Choose 'Reports' from the list of options.
  3. Find and open the report you wish to use as the basis for your custom report.
  4. Review the content of the selected report, then make your desired changes to the date range or other settings.
  5. Once done, navigate to the bottom-right section and click 'Save As'.
  6. Enter your preferred custom report name into the input field and click 'Save' to proceed.
  7. Your Xero custom report will be created and saved for future use.

📌 Why this matters

Xero's custom reports feature gives finance teams and small business owners the ability to tailor standard financial reports to their specific needs and save them for repeated use. Instead of reconfiguring report settings every time, users can build a personalized report once — such as a modified Cash Summary — and access it instantly from the Reports section. This saves time, reduces manual effort, and ensures consistent, decision-ready financial data is always a click away. For businesses that rely on Xero for accounting, custom reports are a powerful tool for tracking the metrics that matter most.
