Jira components let you categorize and filter issues within a project for better team organization. This guide walks you through creating a component in Jira project settings and linking it to an issue from the board.
Steps
- Navigate to Project settings in the left sidebar of your Jira board.
- Scroll down the left sidebar to locate the Components section.
- Go to Jira components on the top right and turn off the Compass component toggle.
- Click Create component to start adding a new component.
- Name your component and hit Save to confirm.
- A confirmation prompt will appear confirming your component has been added.
- Return to your Issue card on the board.
- Click on Component in the issue detail view to open the assignment field.
- Your newly created component will appear in the dropdown, ready to be assigned.
