Use this interactive demo to learn how to duplicate an existing plan in Microsoft Planner in minutes.

Quick summary

To copy a plan in Microsoft Planner, open your plan, use the drop-down menu next to the plan name, and select Copy Plan to duplicate it with a new name and chosen group. This built-in feature lets teams quickly reuse project structures without rebuilding tasks, buckets, and settings from scratch.

Steps

  1. Navigate to the left-side panel and click My Plans.
  2. Find and select the plan you want to copy.
  3. Go to the top menu bar and click the drop-down arrow next to the plan name.
  4. Select Copy Plan from the list of options.
  5. Enter a unique plan name for the duplicate in the input field.
  6. Open the drop-down menu and choose the group where you want to copy the plan.
  7. Tick the checkboxes beside each item you want to include in the copied plan.
  8. Click Copy to confirm and proceed.
  9. Your Microsoft Planner plan is now successfully copied to the selected group.

📌 Why this matters

Copying a plan in Microsoft Planner lets teams instantly reuse proven project structures — including tasks, buckets, labels, and checklists — without rebuilding them manually. This saves significant setup time when launching recurring projects, onboarding new team members, or scaling workflows across departments. The Copy Plan feature ensures consistency across projects by preserving task configurations while allowing full customization of the new plan's name and group. For organizations managing multiple projects in Microsoft 365, duplicating plans is a practical productivity shortcut that reduces errors and accelerates project kickoff.
