How to Change the Text Effect in PowerPoint

Updated on:
May 4, 2026
By:
Madhav Bhandari
Use this interactive demo to learn how to apply and modify text effects in your PowerPoint slides.

Quick summary

This demo walks you through how to change text effects in PowerPoint using the Shape Format tab and the Text Effects menu. In just a few clicks, you can select, preview, and apply any available text effect to styled slide content.

Steps

  1. Select the text you want to edit inside the slide canvas of your PowerPoint presentation.
  2. Go to the top menu bar and click Shape Format.
  3. Click the Text Effects option in the ribbon.
  4. Hover your cursor over the specific effect you wish to change to preview it.
  5. Choose one from the available effect options to apply it.
  6. Repeat the steps for any additional text elements until all preferred changes are applied.
  7. Your text effect in the PowerPoint presentation will now be updated based on your new configurations.

📌 Why this matters

Knowing how to change text effects in PowerPoint lets presenters create visually compelling slides that capture audience attention and reinforce key messages. The Text Effects feature — accessible via the Shape Format tab — offers shadows, reflections, glows, and more, giving users full creative control over slide typography. Mastering this skill helps business professionals, educators, and designers produce polished, on-brand presentations without needing third-party design tools. Interactive demos like this one make it easy to learn PowerPoint formatting features step by step, reducing the learning curve significantly.
