Use this interactive demo to learn how to include Saturdays in your Microsoft Project working calendar.

Quick summary

Adding Saturdays to Microsoft Project requires creating a custom working calendar through the Change Working Time dialog. Once configured, Saturday hours are included in your project schedule, allowing more accurate task duration and deadline calculations.

Steps

  1. Click on the Project tab in the ribbon menu to open project-level settings.
  2. Select Change Working Time from the dropdown options.
  3. In the dialog box, click Create New Calendar to set up your custom weekend schedule.
  4. Give your calendar a descriptive name such as "Including Saturdays" and click OK to continue.
  5. Navigate to the Work Weeks tab to customize your working days.
  6. Select Saturday in the days list, then choose the "Set day(s) to these specific working times" radio button.
  7. Enter your Saturday working hours — for example, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM — to match your project needs.
  8. Click OK to save your changes and officially add Saturdays to your project schedule.

📌 Why this matters

Project managers who need to account for six-day work weeks often struggle with Microsoft Project's default Monday–Friday calendar, which skews task durations and pushes deadlines. Adding Saturdays to a custom working calendar in Microsoft Project lets teams accurately reflect real-world schedules, compress timelines, and meet tighter delivery windows. This capability is essential for construction, manufacturing, and event-driven projects where weekend work is routine. Configuring Saturday working hours through the Change Working Time dialog ensures Gantt charts, resource assignments, and critical-path calculations all reflect actual available working time.
