How to Add Root Cause Field in Jira

To add a root cause field in Jira, you can follow these steps to create a custom field and then add it to your issue screens. Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Click on the gear icon in the top right corner.
  2. Select 'Issues' from the drop-down menu.
  3. Under 'Fields', select 'Custom Fields'.
  4. Click on the 'Create Custom Field' button.
  5. Choose the appropriate field type for the Root Cause.
  6. Click 'Next'.
  7. Enter a field name 'Root Cause'. Optionally, provide a description to explain the purpose of this field.
  8. Click 'Create'.
  9. After creating the field, you need to add it to the screens where you want it to appear by checking the checkbox.
  10. Click 'Update' to save changes.
  11. By following these steps, you can successfully add and configure a Root Cause field in Jira to capture and manage root cause information for issues.
