How Do Jira and Confluence Work Together

Updated on:
April 6, 2026

Use this interactive demo to learn how Jira and Confluence can work together to streamline your workflow.

‍

‍

Jira and Confluence are both Atlassian products designed to help teams collaborate more effectively, particularly in Agile and project management environments. Here’s how Jira and Confluence work together:

‍

  1. Create a confluence page and click the add icon located at the upper toolbar of your Confluence page.
  2. In Confluence, use the Jira 'Issues Macro' to insert Jira issues or filters into a Confluence page.
  3. You can create a new issue of Jira from Confluence.
  4. Fill in the important details and through this Confluence provides real-time updates of Jira issues within Confluence, so when the issue status changes in Jira, it reflects on the Confluence page.
  5. Click 'Create'.
  6. By following these steps, teams can maintain product roadmaps, release notes, and sprint retrospectives in Confluence, while tracking day-to-day tasks and development work in Jira.
  7. A notification pops up once the issue can be viewed in Jira website.

📌 Why this matters

Connecting these tools transforms scattered project information into a unified workspace where your documentation stays current without manual updates. You eliminate the constant context-switching between planning discussions and task tracking that typically fragments team knowledge.

The real power emerges when stakeholders can access live project status through readable documentation rather than navigating complex dashboards. This creates a single source of truth that bridges the gap between high-level strategy conversations and granular development work, making project transparency effortless for both technical and non-technical team members.
