- Sign in to the account where you want to set up 2FA - for example, your Google or Slack account and go to its security settings.
- Look for the two-factor authentication or two-step verification option and select the authenticator app method. The site will display a QR code.
- Click the 1Password extension in your browser toolbar. It should automatically detect the login item for that site and display it.
- Click the ellipsis (three dots) on the login item, then select "Scan QR Code." 1Password scans the QR code on the page and links the account.
- Back on the website, enter the six-digit code now showing in 1Password to confirm the setup, then save your changes on the site.
- Confirm the settings to see that 2FA is now active with 1Password as your authenticator.
- Sign out and sign back in to test it. When prompted for your 2FA code, 1Password will autofill it automatically along with your username and password.

📌 Why this matters
Why this matters
Setting up 1Password as your authenticator eliminates the friction that kills security habits. Instead of juggling multiple apps and manually typing six-digit codes, you get seamless autofill that works exactly like your regular passwords. This removes the biggest barrier to using two-factor authentication everywhere you should. Beyond convenience, you're consolidating your security into one encrypted vault rather than scattering authentication codes across separate apps that might not sync properly or could get lost when you switch phones.
