Use this interactive demo to learn how to share an Asana project directly with a client.

Quick summary

Sharing an Asana project with a client lets you give them controlled, view-only access so they can track progress without editing tasks. Using the built-in Share feature, you can invite clients by email and notify them instantly in just a few clicks.

Steps

  1. Navigate to Projects in your Asana sidebar to open your project list.
  2. Click the Share button at the top right of the project to open the sharing panel.
  3. Invite the client by entering their details through the email invitation field.
  4. Enter the client's email address and set their permission level to Viewers to restrict editing access.
  5. Check the notification checkbox to make sure the client receives an email alert about the invitation.
  6. Click Send to dispatch the invitation to the client.
  7. Confirm the share was successful when a confirmation notification pops up indicating the invitation has been sent.

📌 Why this matters

Sharing an Asana project with a client is essential for maintaining transparency and trust in client-facing workflows. By granting view-only access, teams can keep clients informed on task progress and deadlines without risking accidental edits to project data. This feature eliminates the need for manual status update emails, reducing communication overhead and keeping all stakeholders aligned in one place. For agencies and service teams, controlled client sharing in Asana directly supports better collaboration, faster approvals, and a more professional delivery experience.
