- Click the Chrome menu (the three dots) in the top-right corner of the browser and select "Settings."
- Click "Autofill and passwords" in the left sidebar, then select "Google Password Manager."
- Click "Settings" in the Google Password Manager sidebar and turn off "Offer to save passwords" and "Sign in automatically."
- Go back to "Autofill and passwords" in the left sidebar, and select Payment Methods to turn off "Save and fill payment methods" to stop Chrome from managing those as well.
- Go to chrome://extensions and check if "1Password – Password Manager" is disabled. If it is, click the toggle to turn it on, then pin it back to your toolbar via the Extensions icon.
- Go back to Settings > Autofill and passwords > Google Password Manager > Settings, to confirm 1Password is now the only active password manager in Chrome.
How to Set 1Password as the Default on Chrome
📌 Why this matters
Why this matters
Having two password managers compete for control creates chaos. Chrome might override 1Password's suggestions, autofill conflicts arise, and you end up with passwords scattered across different systems. By designating a single manager, you eliminate these conflicts and ensure consistent behavior across all your logins. More importantly, this setup lets you leverage 1Password's advanced features like secure password sharing, breach monitoring, and cross-device synchronization that Chrome's basic manager simply can't match.
