Use this interactive demo to learn how to connect Sentry error tracking directly to your Jira projects.

Quick summary

The Sentry for Jira integration lets engineering teams link error monitoring directly to their Jira project boards, so bugs detected in Sentry can be tracked and resolved as Jira issues without switching tools. Setting it up takes under ten minutes by installing the Sentry app from the Jira Marketplace and configuring it through Sentry's integration settings.

Steps

  1. In Jira, go to the top navigation bar and click Apps.
  2. Select Explore More Apps from the dropdown options.
  3. Search for Sentry in the Marketplace and select Sentry For Jira from the results.
  4. Click Get App in the top-right corner of the app listing.
  5. Click Get It Now to confirm and begin the installation.
  6. Open the More Options menu next to the installed app and choose Configure.
  7. Click Finish Installation in Sentry to continue setup on the Sentry side.
  8. On Sentry's integration page, click Add Jira Project and select the specific project you want to connect.
  9. Configure the project status settings to map Sentry issue states to Jira statuses.
  10. Complete the setup — your Sentry account is now integrated with Jira instantly.

📌 Why this matters

Integrating Sentry with Jira allows engineering and product teams to automatically surface application errors as trackable issues inside their existing Jira workflows, eliminating manual bug reporting and reducing time-to-resolution. When a Sentry error triggers, teams can create, assign, and prioritize Jira tickets without leaving either platform, keeping development cycles fast and audit trails clean. This bidirectional connection ensures that issue status updates in Jira are reflected in Sentry, giving developers real-time visibility into whether a reported error is being actively worked on or has already been resolved.
