Use this interactive demo to learn how to connect Jira and Jenkins using Zapier automation.

Quick summary

This guide walks you through integrating Jira with Jenkins using Zapier, letting you automatically trigger Jira actions whenever a Jenkins event fires. Setting up this Zap eliminates manual handoffs between your CI/CD pipeline and issue tracker, keeping development workflows in sync.

Steps

  1. Go to the left-side panel and click Create.
  2. Select Zaps from the list of options.
  3. Click Trigger to start the integration process.
  4. Search for Jenkins and select it as the Trigger app.
  5. Choose your preferred Trigger Event from the dropdown.
  6. Click Test to set up the Trigger and configure connection settings.
  7. Click Action to proceed to the action setup.
  8. Search for Jira and select the tool you want to use as the Action app.
  9. Open the drop-down menu and select your preferred Action Event.
  10. Click Sign In to authenticate your Jira account.
  11. Specify your preferred Jira version and click Yes, Continue to Jira Software Cloud.
  12. Select the specific Jira site you wish to integrate and click Accept.
  13. Provide the required information to set up the Action accordingly.
  14. Click Test to run your inputs and publish the integration.
  15. Your Jira account is now integrated with Jenkins instantly.

📌 Why this matters

Integrating Jira with Jenkins via Zapier allows development teams to automatically sync CI/CD pipeline events with Jira issue tracking, eliminating manual status updates and reducing context-switching. When a Jenkins build triggers, the corresponding Jira tickets can be updated in real time, keeping project management and engineering workflows tightly aligned. This no-code automation is critical for teams that want to accelerate release cycles, improve sprint visibility, and maintain a single source of truth across their DevOps toolchain.
