Use this interactive demo to learn how to remove a work log entry from a Jira issue.

Quick summary

To delete a work log in Jira, open the relevant issue, navigate to the Work Log tab in the Activity section, and click the Delete button on the specific entry. This process permanently removes the logged time entry and triggers a confirmation notification once the deletion is complete.

Steps

  1. Navigate to your desired Jira project and click on it to open it.
  2. Click on the issue you want to manage to open its detailed view.
  3. Scroll down to the Activity section and click on the Work Log tab to view all work logs associated with the issue.
  4. Locate the specific work log entry you want to remove and click the Delete button on that entry.
  5. Confirm the deletion when prompted by clicking the Delete option in the confirmation dialog.
  6. A notification will pop up confirming that the work log has been successfully deleted.

📌 Why this matters

Accurately managing time records is critical for project teams using Jira, and the ability to delete a work log ensures that incorrect or duplicate time entries do not skew sprint reports or billing data. Jira's built-in work log management gives project managers and developers direct control over logged time at the issue level, keeping timesheets clean and audit-ready. Teams that maintain accurate work logs in Jira can generate more reliable velocity reports, improve sprint planning accuracy, and maintain transparency across stakeholders. This feature is especially valuable for agile teams and professional services organizations where precise time tracking directly impacts project costing and resource allocation.
