Use this interactive demo to learn how to permanently remove a test case using Zephyr Scale in Jira.

Quick summary

To delete a test case in Jira, you must first archive it via Zephyr Scale and then permanently delete it from the Archived test cases section using the Dependency Check flow. This two-step process ensures no linked test data is removed accidentally.

Steps

  1. Go to your desired Jira project and select Zephyr Scale from the left-side main menu.
  2. Select a test case by clicking the empty checkbox next to it.
  3. Select Archive from the toolbar options above the test case list.
  4. When the confirmation dialog appears, click Archive to confirm the action.
  5. Navigate to your Archived test cases section in Zephyr Scale.
  6. Select the archived test case by clicking the empty checkbox next to it.
  7. Click the Delete tab located above the Zephyr toolbar.
  8. After clicking Delete, complete the Dependency Check step by clicking Next.
  9. Click Delete to permanently delete the test case.
  10. Once the deletion is complete, click Next to proceed.
  11. Click Done to confirm the process has been successfully completed.

📌 Why this matters

Deleting test cases in Jira with Zephyr Scale requires a deliberate two-step process — archiving first, then permanently deleting — to protect test data integrity and prevent accidental removal of linked assets. This workflow gives QA teams full control over their test case lifecycle, ensuring outdated or redundant test cases are cleanly removed without breaking existing test plans or execution records. Understanding this process is essential for teams managing large-scale test repositories in Jira, where clutter can slow down test planning and reporting. Zephyr Scale's Dependency Check step adds an extra layer of safety before any permanent deletion is applied.
