- Go to studio.youtube.com and click Create in the top-right corner, then select Upload videos.
- Upload your source clip as a draft - set visibility to Private for now so it does not go live during editing.
- Once the file finishes processing, go to Content in the left sidebar and click the title of the draft video to open its details page.
- Click Editor in the left sidebar to open the Video editor.
- In the Trim & cut section, trim the clip to 60 seconds or less using the timeline handles, then click Save.
- In the Audio section, choose a track and add it to your clip, then adjust the volume using the sliders.
- Review the clip, confirm it’s 60 seconds or less, then click Save. You can now post, add your title and hashtags, then publish.

📌 Why this matters
Why this matters
Most short-form content starts as raw footage that needs trimming, a music layer, and a format check before it is ready to publish. Doing this inside YouTube Studio means you are working directly in the platform where the video will live - no third-party editor, no re-upload, no format conversion. For companies producing product clips or event recaps, the built-in editor is fast enough for simple Shorts without pulling a video editor into the workflow. Ending with a clean, trimmed clip that is confirmed under 60 seconds means the posting step is straightforward with no surprises.
