Use this interactive demo to learn how to submit a Jira ticket directly from Slack.

Quick summary

You can create a Jira ticket from Slack by installing the Jira Cloud app and using the /jira create slash command — no need to switch tools. Once connected, teams can log issues, set assignees, and track work in Jira without ever leaving their Slack workspace.

Steps

  1. Log in to your Slack account and navigate to Apps.
  2. Select Manage and click Browse apps.
  3. Search for Jira and select Add on Jira Cloud.
  4. Click Add to Slack to proceed with the installation.
  5. Select Allow to grant Jira Cloud the required Slack permissions.
  6. If your Slack email differs from your Atlassian email, click Proceed to continue linking accounts.
  7. Select Go to Slack to be redirected back to your workspace.
  8. In the Slack message bar, type /jira create and hit Enter.
  9. Use the dropdown to select a project and issue type.
  10. Fill in the ticket fields such as summary, description, and assignee.
  11. Click Submit — Slack will send a confirmation message and the Jira ticket will be created instantly.

📌 Why this matters

Creating Jira tickets directly from Slack eliminates context switching, helping engineering and product teams capture issues the moment they surface in conversation. The Jira Cloud and Slack integration lets users log bugs, tasks, and feature requests using a simple slash command without opening a separate tool. This tighter workflow between project management and team communication reduces the risk of issues being forgotten or duplicated. For teams already using both platforms, this integration is one of the fastest ways to improve how work gets tracked and prioritized.
