Jira's Advanced Roadmaps feature lets teams create cross-project plans that visualize epics, sprints, and dependencies on a single timeline. You can configure issue sources, apply JQL filters, manage team capacity, and share the roadmap with stakeholders — all from the Plans section in Jira.
Steps
- Open the Jira dashboard and click the Plans dropdown in the top navigation bar.
- Select Create plan from the dropdown menu.
- Enter a meaningful plan name that reflects the project, team, or initiative the roadmap will track.
- Choose your issue sources — select Agile boards (Scrum or Kanban) if your teams use them.
- Select the projects you want to include in the roadmap.
- Click Create to generate the plan.
- Apply JQL filters to define which issues should appear in your roadmap.
- Click the Basic View dropdown to switch between available roadmap views.
- Click Timeline to display the roadmap with start and end dates for epics, tasks, and issues.
- Click Calendar to add and view important tasks or scheduled milestones.
- Click Program to switch to a Program board view for broader planning.
- Navigate to Teams to define team members and track capacity across sprints or timeframes.
- Go to Releases to create and manage a cross-project release.
- Click Dependencies to manage task dependencies across different teams and projects.
- Click the Share button to grant team members or stakeholders view or edit permissions on the roadmap.
