How to Create a Welcome Email in SendGrid

Updated on:
May 12, 2026
By:
Madhav Bhandari
Use this interactive demo to learn how to build and customize a welcome email using SendGrid's Design Library.

Quick summary

SendGrid's Design Library lets you quickly create a welcome email by selecting a pre-built template and customizing it with the built-in Design Editor or Code Editor. Follow the steps below to go from the main dashboard to a saved, ready-to-send welcome email design.

Steps

  1. On SendGrid's main dashboard, open the left-side panel and click Design Library.
  2. Tap the SendGrid Email Designs tab to browse available designs.
  3. Browse the template categories and select the Welcome category.
  4. Hover over your preferred template and tap Preview to review it.
  5. Review the email design, then click Duplicate Design to reuse it or Create Single Send for a one-time welcome email.
  6. Choose your preferred editing mode by clicking Select under Design Editor or Code Editor.
  7. In the editor, select the module you want to edit to begin customizing the template.
  8. Use the customization tools in the left-side panel to make your desired changes to the template.
  9. Review your finished welcome email design and click Save to finalize it.

📌 Why this matters

Creating a well-designed welcome email is one of the highest-impact steps in any email marketing strategy, since it is the first message new subscribers or customers receive. SendGrid's Design Library gives marketers and developers access to professionally built welcome email templates that can be customized without writing code, using the drag-and-drop Design Editor. The ability to duplicate existing designs or create one-time sends directly from the template preview accelerates campaign setup and reduces time-to-send. For teams managing transactional and marketing email at scale, SendGrid's template workflow ensures brand consistency and deliverability from the very first touchpoint.
