Use this interactive demo to learn how to duplicate a Jira ticket and move it to a different project.

Quick summary

Cloning a Jira ticket to another project lets teams reuse existing issue details without manual re-entry. Use the built-in Clone and Move actions in Jira to duplicate and transfer an issue to any destination project in seconds.

Steps

  1. Navigate to the Jira ticket you want to clone.
  2. Click the ellipsis icon found in the ticket details.
  3. From the dropdown menu, select the Clone option.
  4. Click Clone to confirm the action.
  5. Once cloning is complete, a notification pops up — click Open cloned issue.
  6. Open the cloned ticket and click the ellipsis icon.
  7. Select Move from the dropdown.
  8. In the Move Issue dialog, select the destination project using the drop-down arrow.
  9. Select the issue type for the destination project.
  10. Click Next to proceed.
  11. Click Confirm to finalize the move.
  12. The cloned ticket is transferred to the target project with all details intact.

📌 Why this matters

Cloning a Jira ticket to another project is essential for agile teams that need to replicate work items across multiple projects without losing any issue details. This workflow eliminates manual data re-entry, reduces the risk of errors, and ensures consistent issue tracking across cross-functional teams. By combining Jira's native Clone and Move actions, project managers and developers can efficiently redistribute work, duplicate recurring tasks, and maintain full traceability between the original and cloned issues.
