Use this interactive demo to learn how to send Discord notifications automatically when new GitHub commits are pushed.

Quick summary

This tutorial shows how to automate Discord notifications triggered by GitHub commits using a Zapier workflow — no code required. By connecting GitHub as the trigger and Discord as the action, your team gets instant commit alerts delivered to any Discord channel.

Steps

  1. From your Zapier dashboard, select Zap to start building a new workflow.
  2. Click on the Trigger field to begin selecting your trigger event.
  3. Search and select GitHub as your trigger app.
  4. Select New Commit as the trigger event.
  5. Connect your GitHub account to authorize Zapier access.
  6. Select the repository where commits will trigger the workflow and click Continue.
  7. Click Test trigger to verify that Zapier can pull in recent commit data.
  8. Search and select Discord as the action app.
  9. Select Send Channel Message as the action event.
  10. Connect your Discord account to authorize Zapier access.
  11. Configure the event details — such as the target channel and message content — then click Continue.
  12. Click Test step to confirm the Discord message sends successfully.
  13. Once the test passes, click Publish to activate your automated workflow.

📌 Why this matters

Automating Discord notifications from GitHub commits keeps development teams instantly informed whenever new code is pushed — without anyone needing to manually check the repository. This GitHub-to-Discord Zapier integration eliminates communication gaps between developers and stakeholders, making it especially valuable for remote and async teams. Setting up this no-code automation takes minutes and ensures that every commit is visible in the right Discord channel in real time. It reduces context-switching, improves deployment transparency, and helps teams catch issues faster by centralizing code activity alerts in their existing communication hub.
