Use this interactive demo to learn how to apply and customize slide transitions in Canva.

Quick summary

Adding transitions in Canva lets you control how slides animate between pages in your presentation or video. You can choose a transition style, set its duration, pick a direction, and apply it uniformly across all pages in just a few clicks.

Steps

  1. Hover over a page thumbnail at the bottom of the editor and click the ellipsis icon to open page options.
  2. Click 'Add transition' to open the transitions panel.
  3. Hover your cursor over any transition option to preview how it looks before applying.
  4. Click on a transition style from the options to apply it to the selected page.
  5. Use the 'Duration (seconds)' slider or number box to adjust the transition duration.
  6. Select the direction of your transition — available options depend on the transition style chosen.
  7. Click 'Apply between all pages' to set a uniform transition throughout your entire presentation.
  8. Once satisfied, click 'Share' to save your presentation with all transitions applied.

📌 Why this matters

Canva's built-in transition feature allows anyone to create polished, professional-looking presentations without needing design or video editing experience. Being able to preview, customize, and uniformly apply slide transitions directly inside Canva saves time and keeps your visual storytelling consistent. This matters because smooth, well-timed transitions improve audience engagement and make presentations feel more intentional and cohesive. Whether you're building a business pitch, a school project, or a social media video, mastering Canva transitions gives your slides a finished, broadcast-quality look.
