Adding a subtask in Asana lets you break a parent task into smaller, assignable units — each with its own due date and assignee. This keeps complex work organized and accountable within a single task detail view.
Steps
- Navigate to the project and find the task to which you want to add a subtask.
- Click on the task to open its detailed view.
- In the task detail view, locate the Add subtask option, typically found in the middle of the task pane.
- Click the +Add subtask button or press Tab + S on your keyboard, then enter the name of the subtask.
- Set due dates for the subtask just as you would for a regular task.
- Assign the subtask to a team member by clicking the assignee field within the subtask.
- Your subtasks are now created — you can efficiently add and manage subtasks in Asana going forward.
