How to Add Labels in Jira Project

Use this interactive demo to learn how to assign and manage labels on Jira issues.

Quick summary

Adding labels in Jira lets teams categorize and filter issues across projects for faster tracking and better organization. You can create new labels on the fly or select existing ones directly from an issue's detail panel.


Steps

  1. Open the issue you wish to label from your Jira project board.
  2. In the Issue Details panel, locate the Label field and click the empty field to activate it.
  3. To create a new label, type the label name directly into the field and press Enter to save it.
  4. To use an existing label, click the drop-down arrow and select a label from the list.
  5. With labels applied, you can efficiently organize and track issues within your Jira projects.
