Use this interactive demo to learn how to enable print bleed and export a print-ready PDF in Canva.

Quick summary

Adding bleed in Canva ensures your design extends beyond the trim edge so no unwanted white borders appear when printing to the edge of the paper. You can enable the Show print bleed option from Canva's View settings and export a PDF Print file with crop marks included.

Steps

  1. Create or open an existing Canva design.
  2. From the menu bar, select File then View settings.
  3. Click the Show print bleed option to enable it.
  4. A border of dashed lines will appear close to the edges of your design, indicating the bleed area.
  5. Resize or stretch your background to cover the white gaps outside the dashed border.
  6. Once bleed is added, click Share.
  7. Choose Download from the share menu.
  8. Set the file type to PDF Print.
  9. Check the checkbox for Crop marks and bleed.
  10. Click Download to save your print-ready file and avoid unintended white edges when printing.

📌 Why this matters

Print bleed is an essential step for anyone preparing designs for professional printing — without it, slight shifts during the cutting process leave unsightly white edges on the final product. Canva's built-in Show print bleed feature lets designers visualise and extend their artwork beyond the trim line directly in the editor, eliminating guesswork. Exporting as a PDF Print file with crop marks and bleed enabled ensures print shops receive a properly prepared, press-ready file. This workflow saves designers from costly reprints and gives non-technical users a straightforward path to professional print results.
