How to Access OWD in Salesforce

Use this interactive demo to learn how to access and configure OWD settings in Salesforce.

Quick summary

Salesforce Organization-Wide Defaults (OWD) control the baseline sharing settings for all records across your org. Accessing OWD through Sharing Settings in Setup lets admins define default internal and external access levels for each object.


Steps

  1. Click on the Gear icon in the top right corner and select Setup.
  2. Search for Sharing Settings in the Quick Find box and select it.
  3. Locate the Organization-Wide Defaults (OWD) section and click Edit to make changes.
  4. Set the default access levels for Internal and External Access as required.
  5. Click Save to apply your OWD changes.

Configuring OWD correctly through Sharing Settings ensures that sensitive data is protected while still accessible to the right teams.
