Quick summary
To remove a CMS collection in Webflow, you must first disconnect all bindings and delete all items within the collection before the Delete Collection button becomes available. This step-by-step process ensures no live pages or elements are broken when the CMS collection is deleted.
Steps
- Open the CMS tab from the left sidebar menu.
- View the list of all CMS items and their count, then click the small gear icon that appears on hover.
- Scroll to the bottom to find the Delete Collection button — note it will be disabled if the collection is currently in use.
- Click the View Connections button to see all places the collection is being used.
- Expand the items in the connections list to review them.
- Use the small break icon to disconnect items directly from the connections menu.
- Click Disconnect to confirm each disconnection.
- Verify you have no existing connections before proceeding to the next step.
- If the Delete button is still disabled, it is likely because items still exist in the collection — click on the CMS Collection Name instead of the gear icon.
- The collection item list will open — click the Select button to enable item selection.
- Select all items by checking the box next to the header Name.
- Click Delete to delete the selected items.
- Confirm by clicking Delete permanently.
- Return to CMS Settings by clicking the small gear icon.
- Scroll down to the Delete Collection button, which should now be enabled, and click it.
- Click Delete to confirm and complete the collection removal.
- You have now successfully removed the CMS collection from Webflow.
