Use this interactive demo to learn how to delete a CMS collection from your Webflow project.

Quick summary

To remove a CMS collection in Webflow, you must first disconnect all bindings and delete all items within the collection before the Delete Collection button becomes available. This step-by-step process ensures no live pages or elements are broken when the CMS collection is deleted.

Steps

  1. Open the CMS tab from the left sidebar menu.
  2. View the list of all CMS items and their count, then click the small gear icon that appears on hover.
  3. Scroll to the bottom to find the Delete Collection button — note it will be disabled if the collection is currently in use.
  4. Click the View Connections button to see all places the collection is being used.
  5. Expand the items in the connections list to review them.
  6. Use the small break icon to disconnect items directly from the connections menu.
  7. Click Disconnect to confirm each disconnection.
  8. Verify you have no existing connections before proceeding to the next step.
  9. If the Delete button is still disabled, it is likely because items still exist in the collection — click on the CMS Collection Name instead of the gear icon.
  10. The collection item list will open — click the Select button to enable item selection.
  11. Select all items by checking the box next to the header Name.
  12. Click Delete to delete the selected items.
  13. Confirm by clicking Delete permanently.
  14. Return to CMS Settings by clicking the small gear icon.
  15. Scroll down to the Delete Collection button, which should now be enabled, and click it.
  16. Click Delete to confirm and complete the collection removal.
  17. You have now successfully removed the CMS collection from Webflow.

📌 Why this matters

Knowing how to fully remove a CMS collection in Webflow is essential for keeping your project clean and avoiding broken page references or unused data structures. Webflow's built-in safeguards — such as the View Connections panel and item-level deletion — ensure you don't accidentally break live pages when deleting a collection. This process is particularly valuable for developers and designers who regularly restructure content architecture or migrate away from dynamic CMS-driven layouts. Understanding every required step, from disconnecting bindings to permanently deleting items, prevents common errors and saves significant troubleshooting time.
