Use this interactive demo to learn how to identify and merge duplicate leads in Salesforce.

Quick summary

Merging duplicate leads in Salesforce keeps your CRM data clean and accurate by combining duplicate records into a single, unified lead. This step-by-step process uses Salesforce's built-in duplicate detection and merge tool to consolidate lead data without losing any critical information.

Steps

  1. Navigate to Leads in the top menu bar.
  2. Select the duplicate lead you want to merge from the leads list.
  3. Review the duplicate prompt that Salesforce automatically displays when a duplicate is detected.
  4. Click View Duplicates in the duplicate prompt to open the merge workflow.
  5. Ensure both duplicate lead checkboxes are checked, then click Next.
  6. Compare the leads side by side to review field values, then click Save.
  7. On the Confirm Merge page, click Merge to complete the process.
  8. Confirm the success prompt confirming your leads have been successfully merged.

📌 Why this matters

Duplicate leads are one of the most common causes of wasted sales effort and inaccurate CRM reporting. Salesforce's built-in lead merge feature lets sales teams identify and consolidate duplicate records in just a few clicks, ensuring every rep works from a single, accurate source of truth. Keeping lead data clean improves pipeline visibility, prevents redundant outreach, and increases the reliability of forecasting and reporting. For any team relying on Salesforce to manage their sales pipeline, mastering lead deduplication is essential for maintaining CRM data integrity.
