How To Delete CMS Collection Webflow

Updated on:
April 6, 2026

Use this interactive demo to learn how to delete CMS collections in your Webflow website.

‍

Follow these steps to delete a CMS Collection in Webflow and address possible difficulties:

  1. Open the CMS section.
  2. Hover on the collection you wish to delete. Click on the small gear icon that appears for settings.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the settings page to view the Delete Collection button. If the option is enabled, simply click and confirm to delete.
  4. To View Connections and unlink or go to them, click on the button.
  5. You can view these connections in a list and unlink them directly from this modal.
  6. If you have no connections and the Delete Collection button is still not active, let's check Fields and Instances.
  7. Instead of clicking on the gear icon, simply click on the Collection name.
  8. This will open a list of the instances of the Collection.
  9. Click on the Select option.
  10. And tick the box next to Name to select all.
  11. Click on Delete.
  12. Confirm to proceed.
  13. You now have no Instances or Connections to your CMS Collection. Attempt deleting now or proceed to check one last option.
  14. Click on the Delete Collection button.
  15. The last possibility to verify is active References. This pop-up will inform you of where you have existing references to the current Collection.
  16. Press OK and go to the reference.
  17. In our case, we open the Authors tab.
  18. Scroll down to custom fields and notice Blogs that references our Blog Posts. Click on the gear icon to view options.
  19. Click on the garbage bin icon to delete or change the Collection value to something different from below.
  20. Confirm your choice.
  21. Go back to the Collection you wish to delete and scroll down to find the Delete Collection button and click.
  22. You should now have a confirmation pop-up. Click Delete to delete.
  23. Your CMS Collection has been successfully deleted.

📌 Why this matters

Deleting CMS collections removes clutter from your workspace and prevents accidentally using outdated content structures in new projects. Beyond basic cleanup, this process forces you to audit your site's interconnected content relationships. Collections often have hidden dependencies through reference fields, dynamic lists, and template bindings that aren't immediately obvious.

Working through the deletion process reveals these connections, giving you a clearer picture of your site's content architecture. This understanding helps you make better decisions about future content organization and prevents structural issues when scaling your site.
