Use this interactive demo to learn how to remove linked items and relations in Notion databases.

Quick summary

Learn how to unlink a database in Notion by removing individual relation entries from cells or deleting the entire Relation property to fully disconnect two databases.

Steps

  1. Open the Notion database that contains the linked database item.
  2. Find the Relation column connected to the other database.
  3. Click the Relation cell that contains the linked page you want to remove.
  4. Click the remove or - option to unlink it from the other database.
  5. Click outside the cell to close the relation menu, then check the row to confirm the linked item has been removed.
  6. Repeat the same steps for any other rows you want to unlink.
  7. To unlink the entire database connection, click the Relation column header and select Delete property to remove the whole relation column.
  8. The relation column will be removed and the database will no longer be connected to the other database.

📌 Why this matters

Notion's database relation feature is powerful, but knowing how to unlink or remove those connections is essential for keeping your workspace clean and accurate. Unlinking a Notion database lets you remove individual relation entries or delete an entire Relation property, preventing outdated cross-database references from cluttering your data. This is especially valuable for teams managing complex, multi-database Notion setups where stale links can cause confusion or reporting errors. Mastering database relation management in Notion helps maintain data integrity across projects, wikis, and workflows.
