Quick summary
Notion does not have a native subscript button, so you can use the /equation command with underscore syntax to render subscript characters inline or as a block. This workaround works for both inline equations and block equations directly within your Notion pages.
Steps
- On your Notion page, type /equation where you want the subscript to appear.
- Select Block equation or Inline equation from the menu.
- Keep in mind that Notion does not have a normal text Subscript button, so this uses an equation workaround.
- If you are using block equation, type your text using an underscore like x_2, where 2 is the subscript — note the output cannot be inserted mid-sentence.
- Use Inline equation if you want the subscript to appear inside a sentence.
- Type your text using an underscore like x_3, where 3 is the subscript, then hit Enter to confirm.
