How to Shorten a Link on Google Slides

Use this interactive demo to learn how to create a shortened link for your Google Slides presentation.

Quick summary

Google Slides does not have a built-in link shortener, but you can generate a short, shareable link by copying your presentation's URL and pasting it into an external URL shortener like Bitly or TinyURL. This workaround lets you share a clean, concise Google Slides link with viewers, commenters, or editors in seconds.

Steps

  1. Open your presentation in Google Slides.
  2. Click Share in the top-right corner.
  3. Add the person you want to share with, or set General access to Anyone with the link, then choose their role: Viewer, Commenter, or Editor.
  4. Click Copy link to copy the full presentation URL.
  5. Note that Google Slides has no built-in link shortener, so you will need to use an external tool as a workaround.
  6. Go to Google and search for a URL shortener such as Bitly, TinyURL, or URL Shortener.
  7. Paste the copied Google Slides link into the shortener tool.
  8. Copy the new shortened Google Slides link and share it with your viewers.

📌 Why this matters

Sharing Google Slides presentations often produces long, unwieldy URLs that are hard to distribute via email, chat, or printed materials. Using an external URL shortener like Bitly or TinyURL alongside Google Slides' built-in Share dialog lets users generate clean, memorable links in seconds. This workflow is essential for presenters, educators, and marketers who need to share slide decks quickly and professionally. Knowing how to shorten a Google Slides link improves click-through rates and makes links easier to communicate across any channel.
