Use this interactive demo to learn how to export and share a Tableau workbook with all data and images.

Quick summary

This demo walks you through how to share a Tableau workbook by using the Export Packaged Workbook option, which bundles all data and images for easy distribution. You'll learn how to save the exported file to a destination folder and share it directly from your file system using any application.

Steps

  1. From your workbook, click File in the top-left corner, then choose Export Packaged Workbook to include all data and images in your worksheet for sharing.
  2. In the Save dialog box, choose the destination folder where you want to save the Tableau workbook, rename the file if needed, then click Save to export it.
  3. Open the destination folder, then right-click the Tableau workbook. From the options menu, click Share, then select the application you want to use to share your workbook.

📌 Why this matters

Sharing Tableau workbooks correctly ensures that all underlying data sources and images travel with the file, preventing broken views or missing context for recipients. The Export Packaged Workbook feature is the recommended method for distributing Tableau analyses outside of Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud. Understanding this workflow helps data analysts and business users collaborate more effectively by delivering fully self-contained, ready-to-open workbooks. Mastering this process reduces back-and-forth caused by missing data connections and speeds up decision-making across teams.
