How to Make a Repeating Task in Notion

Use this interactive demo to learn how to set up repeating tasks with a Frequency property in Notion.

Quick summary

Notion does not have a native recurring task feature, but you can simulate repeating tasks by adding a Frequency property (Select type) to a database table and tagging each task as Daily, Weekly, Bi-weekly, or Monthly. This approach lets teams track task cadence directly inside their Notion workspace without any third-party tools.

Steps

  1. In the database table, click Add property on the far right side of the column headers.
  2. In the property type dropdown menu, select Select.
  3. Click the new property name at the top of the column to open its settings.
  4. Rename the property to Frequency.
  5. Click the first empty cell under the Frequency column to open the Select options.
  6. In the dropdown menu, select a recurrence option such as Daily, Weekly, Bi-weekly, or Monthly.
  7. Your database now includes a Frequency property to track how often each task should repeat.

📌 Why this matters

Notion is one of the most widely used all-in-one productivity platforms, yet it lacks a built-in recurring task scheduler. By manually adding a Frequency Select property to a Notion database, users can visually tag and filter repeating tasks — daily standups, weekly reviews, monthly reports — without leaving their workspace. This workflow is essential for teams who manage ongoing responsibilities in Notion and need a lightweight, no-code solution to surface task cadence at a glance. It also keeps task management centralized, reducing reliance on separate calendar or to-do apps.
