Importing DWG files into QGIS lets you bring AutoCAD drawings directly into your GIS environment as editable vector layers. Use the built-in Import Layers from DWG/DXF tool to convert CAD geometry and blocks into spatial data ready for analysis and mapping.
Steps
- On the top menu, click 'Project', then select 'Import/Export' and choose 'Import Layers from DWG/DXF'.
- In the Source Drawing field, click the '...' (Browse) icon to locate and select your DWG or DXF file.
- Once the file is imported, other fields will populate automatically; if any remain empty, enter or choose the required information.
- Optionally, configure Block Import Options to control how CAD blocks are converted during the import.
- Modify the layers from the imported data as needed, then click 'OK' to confirm.
- The data layer will be added to the Layers Panel and will automatically open in the map layout.
