Snapping in QGIS lets you align vertices and segments precisely during digitizing, preventing gaps and overlaps in your vector data. Enabling the Snapping Toolbar and configuring tolerance settings ensures topologically clean GIS layers.
Steps
- Click View in the top menu, select Toolbars, and enable the Snapping Toolbar.
- Click the magnet icon added to the top menu to enable additional snapping options.
- Select the icon beside the magnet icon to enable Snapping on Active Layer or All Layers.
- Set the snapping mode to Vertex and Segment by checking both options (recommended).
- Set tolerance to 10–20 pixels for screen digitizing, or 1–5 meters in map units for GIS accuracy.
- Optionally, enable Topological Editing from the feature tools to keep snapping fully active.
