Use this interactive demo to learn how to turn on multi-factor authentication across your Salesforce org.

Quick summary

This tutorial shows how to enable MFA in Salesforce by configuring Identity Verification and Session Settings through Advanced Setup. Requiring multi-factor authentication for all direct UI logins strengthens your Salesforce org's security and helps meet compliance requirements.

Steps

  1. Click the gear icon at the top right menu of the dashboard.
  2. Select Open Advanced Setup.
  3. In the Quick Find search box, search for and select Identity Verification.
  4. Go to Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and check Require multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all direct UI logins to your Salesforce org.
  5. Scroll to the bottom and click Save.
  6. Go back to the Quick Find search box, search for and select Session Settings.
  7. Ensure Multi-Factor Authentication is placed at High Assurance; if not, move it there by clicking the > button.
  8. Click Save at the bottom to apply all changes.

📌 Why this matters

Enabling multi-factor authentication (MFA) in Salesforce is a critical step for protecting sensitive customer data and meeting industry security standards. Salesforce MFA adds a second verification layer to every login, dramatically reducing the risk of unauthorized access from compromised credentials. Admins who configure Identity Verification and enforce High Assurance Session Settings ensure org-wide compliance with Salesforce's own MFA requirements. This demo matters because a misconfigured or missing MFA policy leaves your entire Salesforce org vulnerable to account takeover attacks.
