Steps
- Select the polygon layer — click on the shapefile (polygon) layer in the Layers Panel to make it active.
- Enable editing mode — click the Toggle Editing tool in the top menu to begin editing the layer.
- Activate Add Polygon Feature — click the Add Polygon Feature tool from the toolbar.
- Select the Rectangle Feature tool — choose the Rectangle Feature tool to switch to rectangle drawing mode.
- Draw the rectangle — drag your cursor across the map canvas and right-click at the endpoint to complete and create the rectangle shape.
- Enter an ID — type an ID value in the attribute dialog and click OK to confirm and save the feature.
