Use this interactive demo to learn how to set up Named Credentials in Salesforce Advanced Setup.

Quick summary

Named Credentials in Salesforce let you securely store endpoint URLs and authentication details for external service callouts. This demo walks you through the exact steps to create a Named Credential from the Salesforce Advanced Setup menu.

Steps

  1. Click the gear icon at the top right of the dashboard to open settings.
  2. Select Open Advanced Setup from the dropdown menu.
  3. In the Quick Find search box, search for and select Named Credentials.
  4. Click New on the right side of the Named Credentials page.
  5. Enter the required details for the new Named Credential, including the label and endpoint URL.
  6. Choose and configure the authentication type for the credential.
  7. Click Save to finalize and create the Named Credential.

📌 Why this matters

Named Credentials in Salesforce provide a secure, centralized way to manage external endpoint URLs and authentication for API callouts, eliminating the need to hard-code credentials in Apex code. They support multiple authentication protocols — including OAuth and password-based authentication — making it easier for admins and developers to govern external integrations. Using Named Credentials reduces security risk and simplifies maintenance when endpoint details change, since updates are made in one place rather than across multiple code references. For any Salesforce org that integrates with external APIs or services, Named Credentials are an essential configuration for secure, scalable connectivity.
