Quick summary

A Notion table of contents lets you instantly navigate long pages by auto-generating links from your headings. Add it in seconds using the /table block — no plugins or third-party tools required.

Steps

  1. Open the Notion page where you want to add a table of contents.
  2. Highlight the text you want to use as a heading.
  3. Select Turn into Heading 1, 2, or 3 from the formatting menu.
  4. Click a blank space on the page where you want the table of contents to appear.
  5. Type /table to open the block menu.
  6. Click Table of contents from the block options.
  7. Your table of contents is now added to your Notion page.

📌 Why this matters

A table of contents in Notion transforms long, dense pages into easy-to-navigate documents — making it faster for teams to find the information they need. By using Notion's built-in heading structure and the native table of contents block, users eliminate the need for manual linking or external tools. This feature is especially valuable for wikis, project briefs, and knowledge bases where quick navigation directly impacts productivity. Teams that master Notion page organization spend less time scrolling and more time acting on information.
