Quick summary

A Notion integration token lets you connect third-party tools and automations to your Notion workspace via the developer portal. This step-by-step guide shows you exactly how to create a new connection, set permissions, and copy your token in minutes.

Steps

  1. In Notion, click your workspace name in the top-left corner.
  2. In the dropdown menu, click Settings.
  3. In the settings panel, click Connections.
  4. In the connections panel, click Go to developer portal.
  5. In the developers panel, click Connections.
  6. Under connections, click New connection.
  7. In the new connection panel, enter a Connection name.
  8. Open the Workspace dropdown.
  9. Choose the Workspace you want to use.
  10. Click Create connection.
  11. In the manage connection panel, click Content access.
  12. Click Edit access.
  13. Click the Teamspaces dropdown.
  14. Click the Workspace name you want to access.
  15. Click Save.
  16. Your Notion integration token is now copied and ready to use.

📌 Why this matters

A Notion integration token is the foundation for connecting Notion to external tools, APIs, and automation platforms like Zapier or custom scripts. Without a properly configured integration token, developers and teams cannot programmatically read or write Notion data. Setting up the token correctly — including scoping content access and teamspace permissions — ensures your integrations are both functional and secure. This process is essential for any team building workflows on top of the Notion API.
