Use this interactive demo to learn how to build a daily journal database in Notion.

Quick summary

A Notion journal database lets you log daily entries with structured properties like Date, Mood, and custom columns such as Goals or Reflections. Setting one up takes just minutes using Notion's built-in Table view and property types.

Steps

  1. Open Notion and add a new page, then give it a title like Journal.
  2. Type /table and select Table view to create a journal database.
  3. Rename the first column to Entry.
  4. Add a Date property and name it Date.
  5. Add a Select property and name it Mood.
  6. Click the + icon to add more columns such as Goals or Reflections.
  7. Click the first cell under Mood and add options like Happy, Okay, Tired, or Stressed by typing each and pressing Enter.
  8. Continue adding new entries whenever you want to update your journal.

📌 Why this matters

Notion's flexible database system makes it one of the best tools for building a personal journal that goes beyond plain text. By combining a Table view with properties like Date, Mood, and custom columns, users can track patterns in their daily life and well-being over time. This structured approach to journaling helps individuals stay consistent, reflect meaningfully, and organize their thoughts in one centralized workspace. For anyone looking to build healthy habits or improve self-awareness, a Notion journal database is a practical, no-code solution.
