Use this interactive demo to learn how to duplicate a Jira epic along with all its child stories.

Quick summary

Cloning a Jira epic with all its child stories lets teams replicate entire workstreams in seconds without recreating every issue manually. Use the built-in Clone option to copy an epic, assign it to the right people, and include all linked work items in one action.

Steps

  1. In your Jira space, find and select the epic you wish to clone.
  2. Click the More Options button in the top-right corner of the epic view.
  3. Choose Clone from the list of available options.
  4. Fill in all necessary details such as Name, Assignee, and Reporter for the cloned epic.
  5. In the Include section, tick the checkbox beside Child Work Items and any other details you want to carry over.
  6. Click Create to confirm and generate the cloned epic.
  7. The selected epic along with all its stories will be successfully cloned in your Jira space.

📌 Why this matters

Cloning a Jira epic with all its child stories eliminates the repetitive manual work of recreating entire project workstreams from scratch. This feature is essential for agile teams that run recurring sprints, similar projects, or templated workflows at scale. By preserving child work items, assignees, and reporters in a single clone action, teams maintain consistency and reduce setup time significantly. For any organization managing complex backlogs in Jira, this capability directly accelerates sprint planning and project delivery.
