Quick summary
The Clip Raster by Mask Layer tool in QGIS lets you extract a portion of a raster dataset using a polygon boundary, so you can isolate spatial data to a specific geographic area. This step-by-step process uses the Raster Extraction menu to configure input and mask layers and export a clipped output file.
Steps
- Go to the top menu, click Raster, select Extraction, then choose Clip Raster by Mask Layer.
- Select your raster as the Input Layer.
- Select the polygon layer as the Mask Layer.
- Optionally, check Match the extent of the clipped raster to the extent of the mask layer.
- Choose an output file location in the Clipped (Mask) section.
- Click Run to execute the clipping process.
- The clipped raster result will automatically appear in the Layers Panel and map canvas.
- Uncheck the two input layers and leave the raster layer active to view the result.
- Your raster has been successfully clipped using a mask layer.
