Use this interactive demo to learn how to create and configure a custom Lightning app in Salesforce.

Quick summary

This demo shows how to build a Salesforce Lightning App from scratch using App Manager in Salesforce Setup. You'll walk through each configuration step — from naming your app to assigning user profiles — so it's ready to deploy.

Steps

  1. Click the gear icon in the top-right menu of your dashboard to open Settings.
  2. Select Open Advanced Setup to access Salesforce Setup.
  3. In the Quick Find search bar, type and select App Manager.
  4. Select New Lightning App from the options at the top right of App Manager.
  5. Configure the details for your new app and click Next to proceed.
  6. Select an item from Available Items, then click the > button to move it to Selected Items.
  7. Click the > button to move Available Profiles to Selected Profiles to grant user access.
  8. Once done, click Save & Finish to complete the app setup.

📌 Why this matters

Building a custom Salesforce Lightning App allows organizations to tailor the CRM experience precisely to their team's workflow, surfacing only the objects, tabs, and tools each user role needs. The App Manager in Salesforce Setup provides a centralized interface to create, configure, and manage all Lightning apps without writing code. Assigning specific user profiles during setup ensures the right people have access to the right functionality from day one. For Salesforce admins, mastering this process is essential to optimizing user adoption and operational efficiency across the platform.
