Use this interactive demo to learn how to make PowerPoint slides advance automatically on a timer.

Quick summary

Learn how to automatically advance slides in PowerPoint using the Transitions tab Timing settings — no mouse click required. Set a custom duration per slide or apply uniform timing across your entire presentation with Apply To All.

Steps

  1. Go to the Transitions tab in the PowerPoint ribbon.
  2. In the Timing group, uncheck On Mouse Click to disable manual slide advancement.
  3. Check After to enable automatic slide advancement after a set duration.
  4. Enter the number of seconds you want each slide to remain on screen.
  5. Click Apply To All to apply the same timing to every slide in the presentation.

📌 Why this matters

Automatically advancing slides in PowerPoint is essential for self-running presentations, kiosk displays, and timed slideshows where manual control is not practical. By configuring the Transitions Timing settings, presenters can ensure a consistent, hands-free experience without relying on mouse clicks. This feature is especially valuable for trade show loops, conference backgrounds, and recorded video exports where slide timing must be precise. Mastering automatic slide transitions saves time and eliminates the need for a dedicated presenter to drive the deck.
